About Jeff Horton of GFW Public Schools
Jeff Horton is a passionate educator currently serving as Superintendent of the GFW Public Schools. Throughout his years working in education, Jeff has had a chance to witness the pivotal role that technology has come to play in the development of education and its delivery to students.
Jeff Horton of Duluth likes to think of himself as a futurist – someone who is excited about the progress we’re making in technology development and how it’s helping drive forward global education.
Around the world, technology is growing and changing rapidly, redefining how we live our lives and shaping the future of society. It’s been a wonderful tool to help connect people across the globe, share information and resources, and develop ideas on a global platform.
Technology has also helped reshape the way we look at education by offering new and innovative ways to process information and bridging the educational gap for students with disabilities. Through technological advancements, we can provide a better learning experience for students dealing with anxiety or behavioral issues and increase their access to knowledge through tools that help them learn in a manner that’s best for them.
Jeff Horton Duluth has seen how technology can not only help students access knowledge but also provide them with the tools to make the absorption of that knowledge more efficient and effective.
Looking to the future of education, Jeff Horton hopes to see technology continue to grow in Duluth so that it can help us work towards individualized instruction for all learners, regardless of where they are in their education. He believes that differentiated instruction is the key to success. We now have more ways to educate than simply handing someone a book regardless of whether or not they can hold it or read it; technology allows educators to immerse their students in the material better and increase engagement. This will increase retention and ultimately help the students learn better. Jeff wants to empower students to feel confident in their own academic journeys and provide them with a “teach a man to fish” versus a “feed a man a fish” mentality.
